German MEP Hans-Olaf Henkel has heavily criticised European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker during a Brexit debate in the European Parliament. Henkel argued Jean-Claude Juncker could have ensured a different referendum result by giving former UK Prime Minister David Cameron more leeway when it came to immigration policy. “Had the Commission under Juncker been as amenable to requests by Prime Minister Cameron as Romano Prodi was for instance to the request of German Chancellor Schroeder to temporarily block Polish workers after Poland joined the EU in 2004, the referendum would have gone the other way!” Mr Henkel also said “constant violations” violations of the EU’s landmark Lisbon and Maastricht treaties by the Commission had “laid the foundation” for Mr Cameron’s decision to call the referendum in the first place. #Brexit #Hans-OlafHenkel #Jean-ClaudeJuncker
